View from Hotel Roof 11x14 oil
During our last visit to Mexico, we decided to make a trip south to the state of Oaxaca. Leaving San Miguel midday, we drove south late into the night making our way around Mexico City. It was very late when we arrived in Tepoztlan. We stumbled into a hotel for a good night’s sleep. Because we arrived in the dark on a moonless night, we had no idea what the surrounding landscape looked like. The next morning we were awestruck when we discovered the hotel’s rooftop terrace with a view of high, rugged mountains above us and the town below, buildings barely visible in the lush vegetation. Though the air was humid and misty, I decided to do a painting from the roof. Hotel employees, fascinated by this painter on the roof, kept coming back and forth to get a look at my progress and to deliver a continuous supply of hot cappuccinos. Painting from the rooftops in the Mountains of Mexico while servers take care of your every need; it doesn’t get any better than that!
